The Guts of a New Machine
I just read this article from 2003 about the iPod. Fascinating to see what has changed since that time, and what still hasn’t. Here’s a passage that I felt accurately represented how competitors thought about overthrowing Apple, and how Apple thought about itself.
Glaser says he admires Apple and likes Jobs, but contends that this is simply the latest instance of the company’s tendency, once again, to sacrifice commercial logic in the name of “ideology.”
Also interesting to realize that Samsung hasn’t really changed its ideology yet, either.
(The one company that did plan a wheel-driven product, Samsung, changed course after Apple reportedly threatened to sue.)
